Among the various religious groups there is great confusion when it comes to understanding the writings of the Bible. The issue of the difference between law and grace continues to continually cause misinterpretation of the Word of God.
In this post we will talk about the difference between law and grace, the first given by Moses on Mount Sinai and the second, brought by our Lord Jesus Christ. From there we can talk about a big difference and apparently not everyone is capable of noticing and understanding it.
Bible Passage Number 1
John 1:17
For the law through Moses was given, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
If in the book of John it is being said that the law was given through Moses, and Grace came through JESUS CHRIST, we can note that grace is more excellent, since its giver was the Son of God himself, who was of greater glory than Moses (HEBREWS 1 TO 3)
If we are seeing then, that the Son of God was sent to celebrate a new covenant with men, we must understand that it was the new law that was going to govern a new relationship between God and men. It is no longer the law that only regulated the relationship between the inhabitants of the Israelite nation, but Grace now comes to regulate the conduct of all humanity.
This new law, which is also known as the LAW OF CHRIST (GALATIANS 6:2) is far superior to the law of Moses, which in the words of the apostle Paul, did not perfect men with their rituals and sacrifices that in it they were made, just as HEBREWS 10:1 says. For the law, having the shadow of good things to come, not the very image of things, can never, by the same sacrifices that are continuously offered each year, make perfect those who are getting closer. Then for the same reason, a new law was procured to replace the law of Moses. It should be mentioned that in God's perfect plan, this change in the law was already contemplated before the constitution of the world, since everything that happened in the law only came to cast a shadow of grace, which was also knows him as the real and true.
Until now we are seeing that the law and grace were given through different legislators. Moses gave the law and Jesus Christ gave Grace. We are also seeing that the law did not perfect those who came to offer sacrifices because of it, so we can say that as a consequence Grace did perfect since it replaced what was not of great help to the soul. We have also seen that grace was only a shadow, and not the reality of spiritual things.
Then we can understand that you should not continue serving God, taking the law as a guide for your conduct, since that old pact does not correspond to us, the NON-JEWS, but now Grace governs all humanity. Then not even the Israelites themselves should be governed by the law? That is not the case, nor are they, since Christ in his death established a new covenant, by shedding his blood on wood, as Colossians 2:14 says. He annulled the act of decrees that was against us, which was contrary to us, and removed it. from the middle by nailing her to the cross. 15 And he dispossessed principalities and authorities and made a public display of them, triumphing over them on the cross. and he also says it in Hebrews 10:9 he said later: Behold, I come, O God, to do your will; remove the first, to establish the second.
So with these differences that have been mentioned, there is no longer any reason to want to continue to be governed by the law, since now we must adjust to the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul in 2 Corinthians 3:7 and 8 And if the ministry of death engraved with letters on stones was with glory, so much so that the children of Israel could not fix their eyes on the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, which was to perish, 8 how will the ministry of the spirit not be more glorious?
What was written on tablets of Stone? the ten Commandments. Why not accept the ministry of grace, the ministry of the Spirit?
We will continue talking about these interesting topics, in later publications.
God bless you.
